What is AEO, and why does it matter now?
People are asking AI tools instead of scrolling search results. If the AI does not mention your business, you are invisible to that buyer - even if you rank on page one.
Why this is happening
Someone looking for a marketing agency in 2026 might type it into Google, or they might just ask ChatGPT "who can handle SEO for a small clinic in Surat?". AI tools reply with a short list of names. If you are not on that list, you never entered the conversation.
Google's AI Overviews work the same way. They pull a short answer from a handful of pages and put it above the normal results.
How AI tools decide who to quote
No single factor decides it, but the same few things come up again and again:
- Can the crawler read you? If your content is locked inside images, PDFs or heavy JavaScript, it may never be seen.
- Is there a clear answer? Pages that state the answer plainly, near the top, are easier to quote than pages that build up to it.
- Is the business identifiable? Structured data (schema) that states your name, services, location and contact details helps a machine understand who you are.
- Do other sources mention you? AI tools lean on consistency. A business that appears on Google, LinkedIn, directories and its own site with the same details is easier to trust.
What actually helps (practical list)
1. Let the AI crawlers in
Your robots.txt should not block GPTBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot or Google-Extended. Many sites block them by accident through a security setting.
2. Answer first, explain second
Under every important heading, put the answer in two or three plain sentences. Then expand. This is the single highest-return change on most sites.
3. Use real structured data
Add Organization or LocalBusiness schema with your name, logo, phone, address, services and social profiles. Add FAQPage schema to your FAQ.
4. Keep your details identical everywhere
Same business name, phone number and website on Google Business Profile, your site, LinkedIn, Justdial and anywhere else you are listed.
5. Publish things only you could write
Original observations, real client work, your own numbers. AI tools have plenty of generic content to choose from. What they lack is first-hand specifics.
What AEO is not
It is not a plugin, and there is no submission form. You cannot "register" with ChatGPT. It is the same patient work as SEO, pointed at a slightly different target.
How we handle it
AEO is built into our SEO work rather than sold as a separate package. Answer-first content, schema, crawl access and consistent citations — then we check monthly whether AI tools are naming you.
